THREE DAY EVENTING:

Darren Chiacchia
United States Equestrian Team Member
2004 Olympics

"It asks a lot of a horse to survive the grueling schedules of travel and competing in selection trials for the U.S. Olympics. When I train for and compete in championship titles my focus is keeping my horse in peak health so we can deliver a world-class performance. That’s why I rely on ULCERGARD to get my horse through the stress of top-level competition. I know the effect of ulcers on overall health and performance. If not for ULCERGARD being able to keep my horse healthy, ulcer-free and performing at his best, I would be sitting out of the world’s most recognized Games."

"My horses have traveled tens of thousands of miles over the past several years and now they can travel with ULCERGARD. It keeps them happy and eating and performing well, no matter what country or time zone they are in."

Marcia Kulak
International Event Rider and Trainer

"As an international event rider and trainer, I see first hand the demands placed on high performance sport horses. The stress of training, travel and competition can often lead to stomach ulcers, which in turn can dramatically affect a horse’s ability to perform. I rely on meticulous care and management along with the regular use of ULCERGARD to prevent ulcers in my horses."

Kristin Schmolze
2003 United States Eventing Association’s Leading Young Rider

"Nothing has made a difference in the overall health and performance of my horses like ULCERGARD. The opportunity to prevent painful stomach discomfort associated with ulcers allows my horses to perform at their best. Because we are on the road so much, it’s important to me that one thing can remain the same in the day-to-day management of the horses, and that is their daily dose of ULCERGARD to keep them ulcer-free."

SHOW JUMPING:

Beezie Madden
2004 U.S. Show Jumping Gold-Medal Winning Team

"I have traveled all over the world competing and know all too well the stress that a competitive lifestyle can have on a horse and that ulcers develop frequently as a result of that stress. A horse’s health affects its ability to perform at its best, which is why I make preventive ulcer prevention a top priority. To make sure my horses are ready for their next jump, I rely on ULCERGARD."

"The stress from traveling 40 weeks a year is bound to take a toll on any horse. Frequent trailering, intense training and varied feeding schedules are all part of the travel stress my horses endure regularly. I have witnessed the effects of this stress on their digestive health - the colic, their unwillingness to feed and their overall lack of energy. Competing as often as I do, I can't have an edge in competition with a horse that has ulcers, which is why I give them ULCERGARD. ULCERGARD is part of my regimen before, during and after all competitions to help ensure that my horses are not held back by ulcers and can perform at their best. When every jump counts, I rely on ULCERGARD."

JUNIOR HUNTER/JUMPER

Nick Haness
2006 Circuit Champion, Indio - Small Junior Hunters
2006 Best Junior Rider, Indio

"Competing two to three times each month during show season means my horse needs to be in top condition all the time. When I started using ULCERGARD with my horse, Ramon, I immediately saw changes in him. He maintained a great temperament, hearty appetite, and his appearance and coat were undoubtedly show quality. Traveling across the country and training is strenuous on horses, and it only takes a few days for ulcers to develop. Using ULCERGARD has eliminated my worry that Ramon could have ulcers develop and would be unable to compete. Giving Ramon his daily dose of ULCERGARD is easy, and he seems to love the taste. Preventing ulcers before they start is important for his health, and it’s made a huge difference in his performance."

Nick is featured on L.A. Riding Club, a new show that follows Nick and other teenage riders as they pursue their dreams of competing in Class A jumping events. From training and preparation through competitions and celebration, viewers will witness the real life of a competitive jumper. The show will first debut on The Learning Channel in the U.K. Stay tuned for more information about the L.A. Riding Club’s debut in the U.S.!

DRESSAGE:

Cindy Sydnor
Dressage Rider/Trainer/United States Dressage Federation Judge

"As a dressage trainer, judge and competitor, I have become increasingly aware of the effects of stomach ulcers on sport horses in recent years. What I used to consider difficulty with concentration and overall unhappiness during training has been, more often than not, the result of horses having ulcers. Keeping a horse healthy so that their training stays on track requires making sure stomach ulcers don’t get in the way. Preventing ulcers with ULCERGARD (omeprazole) makes sense."

"My horses have had problems with ulcers in the past that lead to weight loss and recurrent colic and affected the way they performed. After trying ULCERGARD, I am confident in its ability to prevent ulcers and will continue to work with my veterinarian to establish an ongoing ulcer preventive regimen to keep my horses feeling well and performing at their best."

Karen Lipp
Winner, 2004 USDF Region III Prix St. Georges Championships

Karen Lipp is a well-known Dressage rider that has competed in and won several national and international competitions. Most recently her accomplishments include the 2002 Heidelberg Cup, the 2003 United States Dressage Federation's (USDF) Region 3 Open Championship for Training level, Fourth Level and Prix. St. Georges and the 2004 USDF Region 3 Open Championships for Prix St. Georges and Intermediare II.

"When traveling with and showing Lipton, Kayce Redmond's eight year old Danish Warmblood, I am always focused on making sure he is healthy and can perform at his best. Lipton tends to be a nervous horse that frequently refuses to eat and is more difficult to work with than my other horses. The stress of training, traveling and showing takes a heavy toll on Lipton."

Karen currently trains Lipton and other performance horses on a 50-acre farm in the northern suburbs of Georgia, just outside of Atlanta.

"I have seen the effects of ulcers on performance horses. They often display irregular eating behavior, produce loose stool and exhibit a change in attitude, all of which make it difficult for them to train and compete."

"As a competitor, my attention and commitment to optimal health care for Lipton is the reason I consulted with my veterinarian and initiated a trial program using ULCERGARD. Knowing that ULCERGARD is proven to prevent horses from developing painful stomach ulcers was reason enough to begin a preventive program."

Karen, like many other horse owners, believes that her horse has gone undiagnosed with ulcers as the cost of scoping was a deterrent to getting a confirmed diagnosis.

"It is definitely much more affordable to prevent equine ulcers, then it is to treat them, which is why I welcome the availability of ULCERGARD.

My initial trial use of ULCERGARD was a complete success. The oral paste was easy to give Lipton and he seemed to welcome the taste. I plan on using it prior to and during all future competitions. In fact, Lipton and I won the 2004 United States Dressage Federation's Region III Prix St. Georges Championships while on the ULCERGARD trial program. I plan on using it prior to and during all future competitions."

WESTERN - Reining/Cutting/Working Cow Horse:

Al Dunning
World Champion Reining, Cutting and Working Cow Horse Trainer

"In the past, the horses I own and train have had stomach ulcers, and I have witnessed the severe effects those ulcers can have on performance. These horses have suffered from weight loss, colic, dull coat, among several other common effects of ulcers. I am satisfied with ULCERGARD's ability to prevent these signs of ulcers and I can especially see ULCERGARD being beneficial for my younger horses that are being exposed to more stress when first entering the competitive training environment."

Jay Holmes
2004 NRCHA Open Hackamore World Champion

"Most people never think about horses getting ulcers, but their prevalence is much higher than we can imagine. I am a true believer in ULCERGARD and its ability to prevent ulcers in horses. My top mare is on ULCERGARD and she is 100% on her game. This product is easy to use and well worth it! All performance horses should be using ULCERGARD - trust me, they need it."

Cara Barry
Trainer and Competitor
Professional Cutting Horse Champion
2004 Open Super Stakes Winner

"Speed and agility are essential to pulling off a successful cut, which is why a horse’s physical health is key to its competitive success. Producing a cutting horse champion relies as much on taking care of a horse’s insides as it does on taking care of its outside. The stress from extensive training, along with traveling to events and actually competing, can take a toll on any horse’s stomach. If my horses develop ulcers, it puts them at less than their best. So, when I prepare my horses for competition, I give them ULCERGARD so their stomach doesn’t get in the way of their cutting edge."

"The stress on horses is highest during preparation for competition. ULCERGARD has definitely made a difference in the health and well being of the horses at Carol Rose Quarter Horses."

WESTERN - Halter:

Kathy Smallwood
Halter Horse Trainer

"Over the years I have seen the effects that ulcers have on horses. Being a halter horse trainer my horses must be at their peak when they enter the show ring. Their haircoats and muscle tone are of utmost importance. To achieve the look that is needed for fit horses, they have to be feeling their best at all times - that is one hundred percent from the inside out. By using ULCERGARD, I can achieve this look without compromising their well being. I use ULCERGARD right before, during and for several days after shows to ensure my horses are at their healthiest. In the long run, ULCERGARD saves me a lot of time, money and heartache."

"When I take a horse into an arena, I know it’s being judged on its overall performance, agility and looks. To win, a horse must make a good first impression and this comes with extensive training and conditioning. It’s simple - horses with ulcers cannot possibly show at their best. That’s why ULCERGARD is an essential part of my conditioning program and is the only product that truly keeps my horses ulcer-free."

Merial's new way to prevent stomach ulcers in horses using ULCERGARD is truly a blessing. My horse Curly, a three and a half year old Palomino Quarter Horse has, unfortunately, had to deal with the pain and discomfort of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome.

Curly is exposed to frequent training and travel and, in the past, when having had ulcers, he experienced colic, irritability, and constant attempts at biting, among other signs that the ulcers are causing him discomfort. While I am able to get Curly treated immediately with Merial's healing product, GASTROGARD® (omeprazole), it pains me to see him in such discomfort. Also, the ulcers simply do not allow him to perform to the level that I am used to seeing him. My 12-year old son Cory, who shows Curly for us, saw Curly's performance and attitude change for the worse when he had ulcers.

I am thrilled that an equine ulcer preventive is available and was extremely pleased with ULCERGARD during my initial trial use. I initiated a 28-day regimen with Curly in preparation for some intensive training sessions, and was completely satisfied with the results.

Curly took to his daily dose of ULCERGARD extremely well and he had no clinical signs of ulcers. Even our trainer noticed how well he took to ULCERGARD. It is definitely true that the cinnamon flavor was accepted by our horse. Curly seems to love the taste.

It is wonderful that I and other horse owners now have a proven way to prevent equine ulcers. ULCERGARD will become part of my regular monthly health regimen for Curly and I have no doubt that it will continue to work for him.

RACE:

Todd Pletcher
2005 and 2006 Eclipse Award Winner for Outstanding Trainer

"I focus on training my horses to win so if I’m going to recommend a product to give a championship Thoroughbred, it’s going to be a product that I know works. The omeprazole used in ULCERGARD has a long track record for success in treating ulcers and now with the dosage of omeprazole found in ULCERGARD, I can prevent ulcers before they occur. I rely on the daily use of ULCERGARD as part of my conditioning regimen and so should every race horse trainer. Don’t waste time using anything else. There is no other product that works like ULCERGARD."

Kiaran McLaughlin

"Every trainer and horse owner should know that the stress and intensity of training for and competing in some of the nation’s top racing events puts their horse at risk of getting ulcers. As I prepare my horses to be at the top of their game, that is a risk I am not willing to take. I rely on the daily use of ULCERGARD to keep my horses in peak health and to prevent ulcers. ULCERGARD is the only product that gives me assurance that the horses I care for have the stomach to win."

VETERINARIANS:

Kent Allen, DVM
Past Veterinarian, United States Equestrian Team

"It is a well known fact that horses can develop gastric ulcers when they're under stress and exercising. I personally diagnose close to 60 horses a year with ulcers. I have tried other products that claim to prevent ulcers, but none compare to the efficacy of the omeprazole found in ULCERGARD. I will recommend ULCERGARD to my clients on a regular basis, especially for those horses that are shipped frequently throughout the year for competition and have limited access to pasture."

"I welcome the availability of an equine ulcer preventative and would recommend ULCERGARD for the performance horses in my care. The 4-dose syringe makes it easy to use when going to and in coming home from weekend events. It is nice to know that with horses in these stressful situations I can recommend a product that works and is easy to administer so that my clients' horses can return home from competition with ribbons, not ulcers"

"With the availability of ULCERGARD, veterinarians can now offer their clients an easy to use product that will protect horses at risk of developing ulcers. The proprietary formulation of omeprazole in ULCERGARD is proven effective in preventing equine ulcers and should be considered the gold standard in ulcer prevention for horses."
